In the casting industry field, a lot of researches have been carried out to
maximize soundness and productivity and improve quality stability of mass
produced products. The researches on the optimum design by using
computer simulation have achieved a lot of accomplishments especially.
Their results are utilized to mass-produce sound products. There are some
difficulties to use the simulation in order to make the design of product. In
general, repetitive calculations of computer simulation require much
analyzing time in order to make sound design of product. Another difficulty
is that only expertise technicians can analyze results. To overcome these
difficulties, a lot of researchers carry out studies to make design by
connecting simulation with optimization algorithm. We have performed
such studies to compose the system which connects solidification
simulation with the optimization algorithm called SOA(Sequential algorithm
with Orthogonal Array). We also have standardized various cast design
rules of documents and experts in permanent mold casting. By using them,
we have composed the IES(Intelligent Expert System) where a computer
makes an initial design of a riser, a chill and a gate with the minimum
intervention of a user. After that we achieve the optimum design via
simulation and optimization. This study will introduce what is mentioned
above, the general idea of the system and some examples to apply it to
real products.
