Mg alloys present a number of interesting properties, such as low density,
high specific strength and good castability, etc. Despite these properties,
Mg alloys are used with many precautions of high chemical reactivity,
especially during melting and casting procedures. Research has been
directed to solve the problem by replacing commonly used protection gas
SF6, which is very effective in protection but has high global warming
potential and long life time.
The aim of this study is to manufacture CaO added Mg alloys. CaO added
Mg alloys could be well manufactured by conventional melting and casting
procedures and the effects of CaO on green manufacturing of burning
behavior, oxidation resistance, protection gas usage and even fluidity were
investigated.
