In the fabrication process of multi-crystalline Si ingot for solar cell wafer,
CCCC (Cold Crucible Continuous Casting) technology was practiced to
prevent contamination from crucible wall as well as to overcome the
problems of low solidification rate and crucible consumption. The effects of
Joule heating and electromagnetic pressure in molten Si were
systematically investigated with various processing parameters such as
crucible configuration. Throughout the present investigation, multicrystalline
Si ingot was successfully and continuously produced at the
casting speed of above 1.5 mm/min under a non-contact condition
between molten silicon and the crucible wall.
