Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI) has only a 30 year commercial history,
making it one of the younger engineering materials currently deployed.
New theoretical and applied research has revealed important property and
material behavior information that is useful to the metallurgist, the
machinist and the design engineer. Work on wear resistance,
machinability, Carbidic and ferritic hybrids, environmental effects, gear
design and other investigations will be summarized. Current ASTM, SAE
and ISO standards will also be reviewed with comments relevant to the
new engineering research.
