Semi-solid processing of alloys is becoming one of the key technologies
for producing advanced materials. Solidification structure and mechanical
properties of semi-solid processed grey cast iron(CE=3.59%) were
investigated. Investigation of the resulting microstructure and mechanical
properties was carried out, which revealed significant imperovements in
primary pariticle size refinement and globularity in components produced
through semi-solid casting. Tensile strength of semi-solid processed grey
cast iron is relatively high compared with ordinary one. It is found that
graphite morphology, primary solid agglomeration and graphite network
have a large influence on both the properties in semi-solid processing. The
wear resistance of grey cast iron was improved using the semi-solid
processing.
