Since the idea of the âwhite foundryâ was born, managers focussed a lot of
their environmental activities on meeting the OSHA-requirements for
occupational health: A look into a modern foundry shows impressive
improvements of air quality inside the shop.
Nevertheless the foundries activities for fume removal often could not yet
solve the problem of working in accordance with the aims of sustainability:
Increasing exhaust air rates in modern foundries cause an equivalent raise
of energy-wasting makeup air and hence thwart Kyoto´s aims for climate
protection.
This paper shall outline new ways how the foundries can solve this
conflict. It will demonstrate, that improved methods of waste air treatment
allow foundries giving a substantial contribution to Kyoto and at the same
time offer impressive cost savings in the shop.
