In the present investigation, influence of temperature on the microstructure
of Al-3Ti-0.15C master alloy has been investigated. It is observed that the
size, surface characteristics and distribution of TiC particles, as well as the
morphology and size of TiAl3 particles are related to melting temperature.
The Al-3Ti-0.15C master alloy synthesized at 1200oC and 60 minutes of
holding time, shown superior grain refining action as compared when the
same has been synthesized at 850oC and 60 minutes of holding time. This
is attributed to the favourable surface characteristics, size and distribution
of TiC particles synthesized at 1200oC. Conclusions drawn out of this
